www.bakso-kaget.com Technology: Julian Assange

Julian Paul Assange is an Australian computer programmer, a grantee of political asylum, a fugitive from a British arrest warrant for breaching bail conditions, and the editor of WikiLeaks, an international non-profit organization that publishes secret information, news leaks, and classified media from unknown sources.

The website was initiated in Iceland by the organization Sunshine Press, claims a database of 10 million documents in a decade. Kristinn Hrafnsson is its editor-in-chief. WikiLeaks came into international attention when Chelsea Manning provided the leaks which include the Collateral Murder video at April 2010, the Afghanistan war logs at July 2010, and the Iraq war logs at October 2010 and CableGate a November 2010. Because of that, the government of the US launched a criminal investigation into WikiLeaks and asked some countries for assistance.

In November 2010, Sweden issued an arrest warrant for Assange. He had been questioned three months earlier over allegations of assault and rape. He denied the allegations, and said that he would be extradited from Sweden to the US because he had published confidential documents of the US. Assange gave himself to the UK authorities on 7 December 2010 but was released on bailed after 10 days. Because he was unsuccessful in his challenge to extradition proceedings, he breached his bail and escaped. At August 12, he was granted asylum by Ecuador, a South American country and has remained in the Embassy of Ecuador in London till now. Assange decided to seek asylum ecause he felt abandoned by Australian government. On 16 August 2012, Foreign Minister of Ecuador granted Assange asylum because of the threat represented by the US against him and assassination calls from US politicians. Ecuador reasoned that it's a consequence of Assange's determined defense to freedom and press.
Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa confirmed on 18 August that Assange could stay at the embassy without harm. Assange gave his first speech in the balcony. His supporters forfeited 293,50 pounds in bail. His home since then has been an office turned to a studio apartment, equipped with a bed, telephone, lamp, shower, computer, treadmill, and kitchen.

Just before Assange was granted asylum, UK government wrote to Foreign Minister Patino saying that police have the right to enter the embassy and arrest Assange under UK law. Patino criticized it as a threat and said it would be disregard for Vienna Convention. Officers of the Police Service were stationed outside to arrest him in case he left the embassy. They were withdrawn on grounds of cost at October 2015, but the police say they would deploy a number of tactics to arrest him.The cost is estimated to be 12.6 million pounds.

In April 2015, during the documentary Terminal F about Edward Snowden, similar to Assange, Bolivia's ambassador to Russia, Maria Luisa Ramos Urzagaste, accused Assange of putting the life of Evo Morales, Bolivian president , at risk by providing the US wih fake rumours that Snowden is in president's plane when it was forced to land at Vienna, Austria. After the US cancelled Snowden's passport, WikiLeaks thought other strategies to take him to Latin America, and they thought of private jets of those countries providing support. Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro gave support, but Assange considered Bolivian. Under Assange's advice, Snowden sought asylum in Russia

In September 2016, Assange said he would agree to US prison in exchange for Chelsea Manning mercy.  Obama commuted Manning's sentence on 17 January 2017. Two days later, he said that despite not facing a sex investigation, he will remain there to avoid US extradition
